sanity break

This is what my desktop is going to look like for a few days.

Nothing on it but ERIN ETERNAL. Even all the little lights are off! (Okay, it's actually really hard to see that in the little picture.) Mail, Chrome, iTunes, Adium, Tweetie, XJournal, Skype... The only lights on (which means applications are on) are Finder (the light won't turn off, durnit), Scrivener, and Grab -- because I needed Grab on to get the screenshot. :)

Also, yes there are two chapter 14s. I've been inserting and deleting chapters as I write, and I finally got tired of renumbering the entire list every time. :P In the text for the ones I haven't written, they're titled "Chapter Meh." It only took me three books to figure out things weren't going to go as I planned.

(Desktop photo is here if you want it.)

I've decided I need a short sanity break. Too much internet. Not enough just buckling down to work. Perhaps not enough sanity, either. Checking the internet is not as important as getting words. (Checking once a day is enough. Checking five times an hour? Ummm....)

So for the next few days, I'm planning on not being around much. No blogs, no Twitter, no IM... I will check email, so if you need me, please do email. (And I seriously doubt I'll be able to catch up on various social media when I come back, so if something awesome happens, email!)

Nothing's wrong, and nothing brought this on. It's just time for a break to get the internet back into perspective. (It will not stop if I don't look at every interesting blog post/read my Twitter feed/refresh email every other minute.)

In the meantime, please consider this an open thread to chat with one another and talk about silly things.

See you in a few days!

Enjoy your time off-line! I don't have internet on my writing computer. Never have. Never will. Toooo much temptation!

Definitely a lot of temptation. It's sooooo very easy to get lost in Wikipedia! And, er, social media. *g*

I have been feeling the exact same way the last few days. So now I have 5 days in a row that I have written (which I haven't done in some time), but I've had to cut back on internet obsessions to pull it off. *faint*

Good luck!

Yeah, it's hard to stop paying so much attention to the internet. It's so shiny! There's always something new! But sometimes it's really important.

Just when I come back you take a break. Yours won't be as long as mine was though. I love your background picture. Thanks for the link. I'm having a contest for my followers if you want to participate. Hope you had a great summer.

Yeah, mine won't be very long at all. I'll be back before you know I was gone! :)

Happy writing!

I've always thought it would be cool if one could have an internet timer and set it to say...10 minutes of internet access an hour? :)

Instead I use an online timer to write, which kind of works as well.

Haha, yeah, that does work. I had been doing writing races with a few friends, turning off all email and shiny things to write. We wrote for 30 minutes, then took a break.

Enjoy your sanity break! I think they're seriously important, and hard to get when your job involves sitting in front of a computer the way writing does. There are some things I really like about not having internet on weekends, sanity and focus being right at the top of the list!

Haha, yeah. The shiny internet on *all the time* makes it hard to focus sometimes. It's nice to have it around, but... :)

Torn...I wanted to send you an e-smile via this comment for your sanity break but realized it might like brewing a new pot next to an open window for a coffee addict...hmmmm... (= Have a fabulous e-break! My hiatus the last two weeks had been necessary as well so I'm right there with you. (; See you soon! (I say as I press my forehead up to the computer screen sadly while waving) *sigh*

Heee. Might be, but I've been okay just answering a few comments on my own blog here and there. As long as I don't go out in search of new things to do! I've written over 5k words in the last two days!!

(I will be back soon. Maybe tomorrow. Definitely Friday.)

It's interesting that you refer to plunging back into work as the sanity break, and not the other way around! Being in the world of my story definitely helps ground me, in the weirdest way.

You've inspired me to do the same with my project. Good luck! :)

Hahah, yeah, it's pretty weird how writers' brains work. :)
